Where are you getting the term "outside network"? Is this just a label someone used on Virtual Machine Port Group on your 5.1 host? If you can use the client to get to the Host (the 5.5 esxi box) then you have the management network setup ok. Do you have your management network and LAN logically or physically segregated? If not is should follow that the virtual machine sitting on VM Network should have access to your LAN. On the virtual machine you created from the OVF have you set its network adapter to VM Network?
