Re: Configuring virtual network - backup VM using separate network
Hi Chris, Thanks for the help - that makes sense. I've been battling this for a while. The Veeam guys have told me this is a VMWare issue - so I've tried that avenue. Are you saying I need to add...
View ArticleRe: Configuring virtual network - backup VM using separate network
I think you'll need to dual home the Veeam VM onto both vmnics, and have vmkernel interfaces on the 1 GbE interface that Veeam can use to talk to the hosts (to grab backups). I'll also see if Rick or...

They can be any VLANs you wish to use; even the same VLAN, if you're in a lab where there are no other options. Although I would caution against using L2 mode for the 1000v and instead encourage L3...
View ArticleRe: VDS portgroups without autoexpand
Correct, in that you will not be able to add any more VMs to that port group. Existing VMs attached to the port group will be able to power on.
View ArticleRe: vds Port Group out of ports
A port group will not grow in size unless you have enabled Elastic Ports via the vSphere Web Client.

OK thanks. Is there any reason NOT to enable elastic port groups? On Sat, Nov 29, 2014 at 2:40 PM, Chris Wahl <communities-emailer@vmware.com>

I can't think of a good reason to avoid Elastic Ports. By default, dvPortgroups are created with only 8 ports and Elastic enabled, suggesting this as a recommended practice.

You are basically correct. However, since you create two vSwitches, each of them connected to a separate physical port on the firewall, I see no reason for the VLAN tagging!? André

Thanks, Disconnecting, changing the IP and reconnecting back the host does indeed work (when the host is added to the inventory as a FQDN).
View ArticleRe: Networking advice wanted - ESXi 5.5 hosting dual NIC VMs on DMZ
I like VLAN tagging for consistency, mostly. In the scenario described, it wouldn't really be necessary. However, in production, we tag all our VLANs, so we might as well tag everything, while we are...
